Choosing to be intentional this summer

Choosing to be intentional this summer

There are lots of things in life that are beyond our control. Whether or not we’ll get any decent weather here in Britain this summer being upper most on my list right now. However, as I regularly remind you and myself – we get to choose. We always get to choose. Even if life has thrown things at us that we wouldn’t have chosen we get to choose how we react, how we move through it and beyond it.

So, I can’t choose what weather we’ll have this summer but I can choose to make the most of these warm(ish) and light months. I can choose to accept that the weather will do exactly what it wants and so can I!

If you’ve been in my world a little while you’ll know that every season I make a point of putting together a list of the things that I want to enjoy. Very often these are things that are seasonal and could happen at any time. But, if we aren’t intentional, the things that could happen at any time end up not happening at all. So, between now and mid-September I want to choose to make sure that I find the time and energy to enjoy the following:

  • Eating outside as often as possible

  • Reading outside as often as possible

  • An ice cream on the beach

  • Barefoot walk on the beach and a paddle

  • Visit RHS Bridgewater at least once

  • A day trip to the seaside

  • Walks in the woods

  • Wear my new summer dresses

  • Replant my much-neglected garden

  • Cut posies of flowers for the house

  • Learn a new seasonal recipe

  • Try some new summer mocktails

  • Book a September holiday

  • Draw/paint outside

  • Go to an art exhibition

  • Brunch out with friends

It appears that my list is full of food, drink, the seaside, gardens, reading and art. That is a pretty good summary of the things that may me feel happy. The things that bring me joy and contentment and make me feel alive are the things I should be choosing to make time for. And so should you.

So over to you. What do you want to choose to prioritise and make time for this summer no matter what the weather chooses to do?
